1994: Experience the Fullness of Love

Teachings to treasure, teachings that transform. In this auspicious year 2015 commemorating the 90th birthday of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, we offer a compilation of key messages from the over 140 discourses in the month of July, including Guru Poornima Days between the years 1958 and 2009.

·      1994: Experience the Fullness of Love

We are granted the power of speech, that can acquire a kingdom, wealth, friends, relation, and freedom. But we can also lose, and bring about death. Speech is the life-force of human beings. We must speak softly and lovingly to everyone. God has granted us, to lead a truly human life and achieve fulfillment, instead such sacred sweet speech has become scarce. Society is riddled with bitterness and discord, and turned into an inferno.   Despite that we have achieved astonishing progress in science and technology, we also witness political and economic crises, and conflicts. Moral values that are imbibed in our education are steadily declining among man. We are breaking down character rather than building it. Unity among people is being shattered by the differences among persons who are well educated. We still remain in the animal stage. Humanness is in ruins.  What does God suggest we do? There is no need for a new social system, religion or creed, but for body of men and women with sacred ideals. Good society has to be built on spirituality, alongside purity of mind, good character and morality. But people believe a good society can only be built from money, even though it will not confer peace. Man must overcome jealousy and hatred to manifest compassion in the heart. Where there is love, there will be no hatred, and no threat to peace.

Gurupoornima is observed on the Full moon day. Guru has several meanings. One especially as those who dispels darkness. Poornima means the completion of the full circle created by the moon, which represents the state of mind when it is filled with love. Gurupoornima is the day on which one celebrates the dispersal of darkness of ignorance from the mind.   Teachers should instill devotion to God in the young, or at least instill faith. Governments should not interfere with the practice of their respective religions by the citizens.

No one should criticize the creed of others. The divinity that is adored by all religions is one and the same. Everyone should be taught to respect all religions. The true purpose of education should be realized. Education should be a preparation for righteous living and not for earning money. Good qualities are more valuable than money. All that Swami wants from you is only your Love.

Points to Ponder:
·       Guru is one who dispels darkness  Why is it so easy to share hatred but not love?
·       End of education is character.
·       The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why – Mark Twain: Why? To share love.
