Experiencing Oneness with Divine Our Saint Thirumoolar explains to us beautifully that in order experience divine bliss, feeling one with God, the simple and only way is to fill our hearts with joy by constantly thinking of God! He sings in this poem as follows: நான்என்றும் தான்என்றும் நாடினேன் Initially, I thought that I was different from God. I also imagined that God existed separately from me and I went in search of God. When I started to search for God, I began to experience the truth that God and I are not two different beings. நான்என்ற ஞான முதல்வனே நல்கினான் ஞான முதல்வனே – The embodiment of truth, which is God. நான்என்ற ஞான முதல்வனே – God who is present in my as wisdom; நல்கினான் – God made me aware.   What happened when I became aware of this truth?

Teachings to treasure, teachings that transform.  Thirumoolar Thavamozhi Motivation 37. How to untangle the bags of Karma?   Our wise elders have classified into three categories the karma that we all experience or create in our human life. Sanchita is the accumulated karma of our actions in our past lives. Prararabdha is a portion from that Sanchita karma that we are expected to experience during this human life. Agamyam is the new karmic effect of our actions during this human life, while we are experiencing the prararabdha karma.   Our Saint Thirumoolar sings beautifully in this song how our wise elders mastered the method to untangle the three karmic knots and remain in bliss, constantly experiencing divine wisdom. தன்னை அறிந்திடும் தத்துவ ஞானிகள் தன்னை – one’s true identity (the atma); அறிந்திடும் – realizing one’s true identity by wisdom; தத்துவ ஞானிகள் – our wise elders who had realized the truth.

Teachings to treasure, teachings that transform.    Thirumoolar Thavamozhi Motivation 36. How to win Divine Grace?   Our Saint Thirumoolar sings lovingly in this poem that we are able to think of God and cultivate devotion to God, due to the grace of God. Our scriptures proclaim, “God’s blessings bestows one the privilege to pray to Him.” We may think that we have made a decision to pray to God, and think that we are making our individual effort to seek His grace. Our Saint Thirumoolar says, that it is with the blessings of God can one think of praying to Him. To seek God’s grace, we need His blessings. We should pray that we are blessed by God to keep our mind away from swaying in other directions, and remain focused on God. Our Saint Thirumoolar sings about this joy, in this nectarine poem. The lotus feet of God is the boon that a devotee of God earns with...

Seeing the divine while serving a guest at home   Our Saint Thirumoolar sings about the blessings of serving a guest at home considering it as a form of worship. தண்டுஅறு சிந்தை தபோதனார் தாம்மகிழ்ந்து உண்டது மூன்று புவனமும் உண்டது   தண்டுஅறு சிந்தை – uninterrupted continuous meditation; தபோதனார்   - Saints who engage in such deep meditation; தாம்மகிழ்ந்து   உண்டது – when those saints enjoy a nicely cooked meal prepared by us; மூன்று புவனமும் உண்டது – the joy is equivalent to feeding the three worlds. கொண்டது மூன்று புவனமும் கொண்டதுஎன்று எண்திசை நந்தி எடுத்துரைத் தானே கொண்டது – God who is present எண்திசை நந்தி – in all eight directions. God (Siva) who is omnipresent.   Our Saint Thirumoolar sings comparing the great joy and blessings of offering gifts to great Saints who engage in deep meditation. He sings that when these Sa...

Teachings to treasure, teachings that transform.    Thirumoolar Thavamozhi Motivation 33. Meditation and idol worship   Our meditation and devotion to God are expressed by worshipping an idol, with various procedures, both simple and elaborate. The main difference between the mental prayer to God through meditation and worshipping an idol can be seen from the procedures. Our Saint Thirumoolar sings in these poems about the significance and salient features of idol worship. He says that worshipping an idol bestows God’s blessings steadily. Our Saint says that we are “fortunate when we become interested in worshipping”. He says for worshipping we merely need some flowers and water. These are easily available for anyone and everywhere. அருள்புரி யாநிற்கும் – God knowingly showers His blessings.
