Ramayana : The Epic Story of the Legendary King Rama

Teachings to treasure, teachings that transform.

Though thousands of years have passed, the story of Rama and the inner story of Ramayana is being enacted every moment of our lives. The story of Rama is not a mere compilation of incidents, it is the very essence of the Dharma of the individual, the family & society.

Dr Abdul Kalam is looking at Ramayana in 2007.

We extracted nectarine insights from the discourses of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba on Ramayana and performed during Rama Navami in 2004-2007 in Manila, Philippines. We also compiled in an audio file the medley of bhajans with the narration of the various episodes from The Ramayana in English as well as Sanskrit.

Please do not miss the audios and picture book published by Radio Sai:   "Journey  into Valmiki's Ramayana".

Summary:

Dasharatha signifies the chariot of the human body with the five organs of action and the five organs of perception. Ayodhya signifies the impregnable fortress, i.e. the heart. The three queens are the satwic, rajasic and tamasic qualities. The four sons are Dharma (Righteousness), artha (wealth), kaama (desire) & Moksha (liberation). Dharma i.e. Rama marries Prajnana, ie, Seetha. They go to the forest of ignorance or Ajnana. There Ravana, the embodiment of Evil steals Seetha. Rama then befriends Sugreeva representing Viveka or discrimination and fights Vali, ie, indiscrimination or Aviveka. With the help of Hanuman, the embodiment of Courage, they cross the Ocean of Samsara. Vibheeshana, Ravana & Kumbhakarna represent the Satwic, Rajasic & Tamasic temperaments. Dharma destroys Tamas & Rajas and crowns the Satwic, i.e., Vibheeshana. Finally, Dharma gets back Seetha or Prajnana who gets transformed into Anubhavignana. This is true Wisdom. One has to similarly go through trials in life to achieve true Education. When such victory is achieved, there will be Rama raajya on earth. Let us sing the glory of Sri Raamachandra!
