27. The Secret of Creation

Our Saint Thirumoolar sings about the glory and the secret of creation nicely. He says that the “desire” of God was the primary reason for the creation.

 

உகந்துநின் றேபடைத் தான்உல கேழும்

உகந்துநின் றேபடைத் தான்பல ஊழி

Yuga after Yuga, after one yuga ends, God creates the universe again and again, just because of his desire in Him.

 

உகந்துநின் றேபடைத் தான்ஐந்து பூதம்

உகந்துநின் றேஉயிர் ஊன்படைத் தானே.  

With the same “desire” he created the five elements, the living beings, and the bodies for the beings in which the individual souls reside.

உகந்துநின் றேபடைத் தான்உல கேழும்

உகந்துநின் றேபடைத் தான்பல ஊழி

உகந்துநின் றேபடைத் தான்ஐந்து பூதம்

உகந்துநின் றேஉயிர் ஊன்படைத் தானே.  5 

 

 

In this song, the meaning that our Saint wishes to convey is that the we should all, without regret, acknowledge that the creation was due to the “desire” of God, with the three roles of creation, sustenance, and destruction as  integral parts of the process.

Our saint Thirumoolar next sings to explain that no one can see or understand the form of this God who repeatedly creates, sustains, and destroys the universe.

 

ஆரும் அறியாத அண்டத் திருவுருப்

While God is the embodiment of the entire universe, no one actually knows His true form. Our Saint Thirumoolar goes on to sing about that sacred form.

பார்முத லாகப் பயிலுங் கடத்திலே

பார் – earth; கடம் – vessel.

Our Saint considers the five elements of earth, water, air and others as vessels. In this vessel, he says,

நீரினிற் பால்போல நிற்கின்ற நேர்மையைச்

When milk is mixed with water, the milk spreads through the water without distinction. In the same way, God is present all over His creation !

சோராமற் காணுஞ் சுகம்அறிந் தேனே.  

 

Our Saint Thirumoolar sings with joy, that he rejoices meditating on this sacred fact of the omnipresence of God.

ஆரும் அறியாத அண்டத் திருவுருப்

பார்முத லாகப் பயிலுங் கடத்திலே

நீரினிற் பால்போல நிற்கின்ற நேர்மையைச்

சோராமற் காணுஞ் சுகம்அறிந் தேனே.  10
