In today's rapidly-changing world, empowered by the Internet and social networking, information is abundantly available at the click of a button. However, the challenge that remains for students aspiring to achieve a brilliant career is how to tap that information to gain knowledge, apply the knowledge to develop skills, and use the skills to lead a balanced life.
Prof Seetharam Kallidaikurichi E. is on secondment from the Asian Development Bank as Founding Director of the NUS Global Asia Institute and Visiting Professor and Director of the Institute of Water Policy at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. A medical doctor, Dr Lakshmi Seetharam has lectured at SEAMEO and UN meetings and is a classical Indian dancer. Through reflecting on the roles the arts play in their life journey, they shared how the deliberate and consistent practice of any art form can change brain circuitry and improve general cognition. In this session, they reflected from their personal experiences how any work of art is a process and product that opens new ways of seeing the unseen.
Student musicians from the NUS Indian Instrumental Ensemble, a member of NUS Centre For the Arts, joined the Seetharams in a live demonstration of music and dance.
