Meditation in the Bible

MEDITATION IN THE BIBLE

The following verses in the Bible show the significance of meditation:

Let the words of my mouth and MEDITATION of my heart be accepted in the sight, O Lord my rock and my redeemer (Psalms 19:14).

Be still and know that I am God (Psalms 46:14).

Let me hear what God, the Lord, will speak …………… to those who turn to him in their hearts (Psalms 85:8).

I commune with my heart in the night; I meditate and search my spirit (Psalms 104:34).

May my MEDITATION be pleasing to Him for I rejoice in the Lord (Psalms 104:34).

On the glorious splender of the majesty on thy wonderous works, I shall MEDITATE (Psalms 145:5).

"But you, when you pray go into your room and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in the secret and your Father who sees in secret place will reward you openly" (Math. 6:6).

The kingdom of God is within you (17:21).

You are the temples of the living God (1 Cor. 3:16-17).

For God alone, my soul waits in silence (Psalms 62:1).

Be silent and I will teach you wisdom (Job 33:33).

I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life (John 8:12).

We do not know how to pray as we should but the spirit Himself prays in us with a yearning which can not be said in words (Rom. 8:26).

Clean the inside of the cup and dish first so that the outside may become clean as well (Math. 23:26)

Your body is the temple of the holy Ghost which is in you (1 Cor. 6:19).

I will ask the Father ……….. He is the spirit of truth……. You know Him. He lives in you (John 14:16).

Simply revere the Lord Christ in your hearts (1 Peter 3:16).

I spent all night MEDITATION in my heart (Psalms 77:6).

"Now in the morning having risen a while before daylight, he went out and departed to a SOLITARY place and there He prayed (Mark 1:35).

Blesseed is the man who walks not in the counsel of sinners but his delight is in law of the Lord and His Law he meditates day and night (Psalms 1:1-2).

CHRISTIAN SAINTS AND MEDITATION

In 300 A.D. St. Paul of Tabenna a monastery of Tabenna in Upper Egypt. There he taught systematic meditation to monks.

In 310 A.D. St. Anthony built a schoool 65 kilometres South of Cairo where he taught meditation.

Some christian Saints have clearly shown the significance of meditation in christian life as evidenced from the following quotations:

"Let me know myself and I shall know thee" (St. Augustine).

"No one can be saved without self knowledge" (St. Bernard).

"Let us enter the cell of knowledge" (St. Cathrine of Siena).
